Flew the A-team out of the new kit boxes today...they trapped with no problem. The kit boxes are pretty much in. The A-team box is done and the B and young bird team boxes are all done except V-perches and the inside door. But here it is....I can close up the front of the kit boxes if I want to...or open for sun and ventilation.

Traps, Kit Boxes, 2 windows and vents were added since last photos.

The Wall is opened up exposing the kit boxes.

The A-team box is on the Left, Breeder loft is on the right and leaves a little hallway....the other two Boxes are to the left of the A-team box....there is also an open area to my left that is 4X8 that I will use to add a hen and cock loft in the near future.

The inside of the Breeder loft....5'X8'

My Guard dog...she is learning to duck hunt and loves it...she fetches things from the bottom of the pool in the 6' deep area...crazy...

Anyway...I will paint it real soon

Merry Xmas everyone!

Hey Paul,,,,,,,,,Great looken loft. I got a question for you. Now that you have a new loft . Do you or will you ever put on a cage on the kit box doors (on the outside) so that the birds have access to the outdoors & sun?? Just curious. And what are your thoughts on outside cages?? Not the ones for settling. Or do you leave the individual doors open for sun light?

Paul.

Awesome.

The other Paul,

I have a outside cage for my breeders for sunning and bathing. Don't use an outside cage for the kit birds, they fly in the sun and the bottom of the kit box is wire for bath drainage. The reasom to put the bath pan in the outside cage for the breeders is to keep the loft dry.

I was just over at Paul's on Saturday and checked out his set-up and you talk about a big difference. No more slide/swings or crouching to get to his breeders! The breeders looked so happy with the room that they will no doubt kick out some great rollers!!!! Paul's wife has got to be happy with the loft as there shouldn't be much feathers in the pool!!! Nice job Paul. Steve

David,

I love the Greeen nest fronts...they do hold up and they clean up real easy....I just unscrew them with 4 screws and when I clean the nest boxes and throw them in a bucket soapy watter.....all clean....they are cut to fit too...they are about 4 inches longer and you cut them to fit. I really like them....I love those traps too....they are easy to install, don't warp or anything and look good...Tony can get them too...because they are from Jeds.

As for putting a "sun Cage"///yes I will do that...all the windows can open up and I will hang a cage for sunlight....I also have perches in front of the windows so that during the good weather they can sit in front of an open window...I also have 2 sky lights that you can't see that let in plenty of light...the cages will be removeable.

Kelly,

The measurements are 9'X14'....In all...out the door the loft has cost me about 2600.00....and that is for everything...wood for the kit boxes, chicken wire, screws, Windows, Sky lights and traps......I may have to buy a couple more pieces of wood...I used the cheapest plywood for the kit boxes and breeder loft and all 2X2 and 2X3 to save money. The windows were only 50.00 each....they were in the sale bin and a window shop....The building was built by Barnco....they smoked tuff Shed...and Barco uses 1 1/8" on the floor...thick stuff...

I love labs too...had them all my life and so has my parents...she "Kona" is a little over 2years old...I am going to breed her next year....she is full of Field Champions in her Ped.......she is very muscular...she swims for about 4 hours at a time in the summer with the kids...

Nice job Paul !!!!!

Scott

PS you may want to think about more air flow , and use those windows for a small fly pen for the breeders so they can catch the rays and bath , easy fix

Looks great Paul! I really like the way it turned out. That's a set-up you can be happy with for a very long time. It's very nice to have new digs. I'd recommend putting those individual floor tiles down on the "hallway" parts of your loft, makes clean-up real easy and it looks nice. Plus, they are real cheap and go down easy. All you do is peel the paper off the back and lay them down. You just have to make sure you don't have any extra space around the edges or the tiles tend to "walk" on you a little bit. Ya done good bro!

Hey Paul looks great, hey for the area under the kit boxes when I had my kit boxes inside when I lived in Suisun I put the black tar paper down on the floor. Very easy to clean uo and never gets soaked through. Just roll it up and throw it away and cut another piece. The loft looks great and is a very nice upgrade. Joe

Ultrasonic,

The plans for the loft were from...Paul Fullerton Construction...LOL...Actually....Barnco...put the shed together...and I did the rest....it is 9X14......and I can give you the dimensions of the kit boxes and my hen and cock loft...just e-mail me at paulfullerton@sbcglobal.net....I just took out the graph paper and plotted out different designs and this is what I finally thought would work the best.

Parlourfancier,
When I was your age my loft was built out of whatever I could get my hands on.The main thing is to protect your birds from wet, severe drafts and predators.
