If all goes well, I am going to be getting a set of Tony's "crown breeding cages" this spring! I think they will work great for me! Should be easy to keep clean and maintain also!

What a coincidence.... I plan on purchasing an 8 Unit Crown Breeding Pen in spring also.

Those crown breeding pens sound like a wonderful idea. I've discussed the benefits of utilizing these particular breeding pens with Tony recently and I'm sold on them as a great addition to my breeding program.

Just have to assemble it out of the box once the UPS or FEDEX deliverer brings it to your home.

Yep... good idea for breeding!

I have them (crown) and love them. Although I split them and set up on 30" legs. Didn' like getting into the lower cages.

I breed primarily in an open loft. I'd like individual breeding pens some time but I recommend that they be at least 3 feet tall so the birds have to fly up and down between feed, water. and nest box. This will help the birds defecate more regularly andimprove fertility as well as longevity.

FANTASTIC cages..love to build something like that someday. too bad i got a small yard, that can't really fit something like that. somehow, my breeders seems to successful in an open loft then individual cage. Never before that my breeder did good in indiviual cage. But very NICE cage.

Thanks Rudy, and Washington86,
Washington these are our rabbit cages I converted over to pigeon breeding cages. All I did was take the center dividers out so each cage is as wide as the entire cage. Being 18" tall and 24" deep is plenty of room for a pair of birds. Each cage has its own water fountain, feeder {Automatic} and a grit bowl. As well as two nest bowls. Outside of the cages are card holder to keep notes on the pairs and the fosters. The front double door stays open most of the time except for rain and bad weather. You can see a exhaust fan in the top off centered of this photo. The kitbox doors are on the side so I can feed and water from inside of the loft.
Kopetsa my breeding season isn't that long. Usually start around Feb and end around May/June. Then after that they go in the hen and cock pen. Which they have outside flights for plenty of fresh air and room. My open loft is just shelves with nest bowls on them. And I keep a record book on the inside of the open loft so I will know who has whos eggs.
Again thanks for the nice commits and best of luck to everyone this coming breeding season.

thanks rollerpigeon1963, thanks for the creative hints for indiviual cages. I'll try doing something like that in the future. Last time, I didn't have grits for the birds, and they went crazy. I think that was the problem. My birds kept climbing on the cages and wanting to get out. Before, i didn't know, but now I know. I don't have that much birds yet. I only have 2 pairs, and that is it, they are the only two piar that are breeding. I have fosters, and that's the onyl way for me to have multibirds.

Just dug this post up for a few newbies to check out. You may not have anything remotely this fancy but it will give you a good picture of quality and control in your breeding program.

I don't have any pictures but when I 1st started with individuals, I had smaller pens like the 1's shown.
Now I have gone bigger so the birds can get a bit of exercise. 12 of Mine are 4 feet wide, 4 feet tall, & 3 1/2 feet deep. Then there are 2 4 feet x 4 feet x 7 feet tall with access to outside. I use the latter for the old hens.
I took the open loft out & don't use fosters.
The individuals are in my garage 22 feet x 11 feet.
When I winter the birds, I pull the nest box out & can house 12 birds in each individual. 24 in the 2 bigger 1's at least thats how many perches are in each.
My fly coop is 20 feet x 12 feet at a different location.

My 6 breeding cages are within my loft, once the eggs are laid, I try to foster them out to hatch or just let the parents hatch them before fostering depending on how fast I want to produce young. I have a few pair that are great to adopt, sit on eggs, hatch and raise the squabs. I have 6 breeding cages & 6 foster nests as well in each loft. My 2 lofts are about 6' X 12' & around 7' tall. I built them that way so I could catch birds easier.

Guys,
This year my individual breedings looking like these old one. Since I got rid of most of my gamefowl i converted there fly pens into individual breeding cages. The cages are 4 feet wide, 12 feet long and 6' 6" tall. Each fly pen with house 1 pair of birds and I have 13 to use for the rollers. That means with them being this size I don't have to clean them as much LOL LOL. And I am able to feed and water from the outside without going into the pen. Only time I have to go into the individual pens is to band the squeakers. I'm still going to use a few of the old individual pens for a few test pairs and probably keep the foster birds since they are the same family that I'm flying. There is a lot of options I can look at now. Best of luck to you all this breeding season.

Good looking out Quick I like them like that more moving exercise for the bird you think..I'm going to make something like that and build a pen around it like 6 by 8 like what I have on my kitboxes and everyday let out each pair for a while and back in this way they get plenty of exercise flying around the pen.
