Hello Fellow fanciers, I am currently getting back into the hobby after a 10 year absence. I am in the process of collecting ideas and plans for my new loft that I will be building soon. I only have a little space. I was thinking of building a loft 4x8 that will accomodate my breeding, break up, and flying all in one! If you guys would be so kind to submit as many pix of your lofts as possible so I can get some sort of Idea as to which route to go. I have seen many lofts, but I am open to new and fresh ideas. I am sure ther are fanciers out there with great lofts and ideas for future lofts. Any help you can provide or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx, Gator!

Hi Gator,
4X8ft is small but that's the size I started with and now have 4X20ft + 5 kitboxes and another 4X8ft loft for breeding my Homers and Doneks.Check out what I started with at

Sundance that is a great loft and kit box setup. The deck does make it look more attractive. The color is cool too. I have a kit box that consists of seven compartments and it is one of a kind also. It has three four foot compartments in the front and the same slanting on the side like wings. Two more kit pens four foot on each side would make it sixteen feet on both sides. It would make it look better perspective wise. That would make seven kit boxes. It has a deck wrapped around too. The doors in front are four feet for a faster release and the doors in the inside back are three feet. I have four custom three tier wire cages inside for individual breeding. Ill put it on this site someday. Rollers in the sport,Ray.

This loft is 12' X 6' and has 2 sets of the Crown 8 Compartment Breeding Pens in it.
You can build a 4’ X 8’ loft with room for some hens & cocks on each end if you used 1 set of the Crown 8 Compartment Breeding Boxes. My Kit boxes are 12’ long for a set of 3 so a set of 2 would come out to be 8’ long also. Hope these photos give you a couple good ideas.
To build nesting boxes, time & material, those Crown Breeding Pens can’t be beat.

Feed chutes! I'm betting! I would like to see a better picture of what looks like an automatic watering system!

Hi Ed & Val

Your Bet is right for the rain chutes; they feed bulk feeders in my Cockatiel cages so I don’t have to open the doors to feed.

The water bowls in my kit boxes are hooked up to a standard lawn sprinkler timer and valve, PVC pipe with a plug on the end with an 1/8 hole drilled in it, feeding 9 water bowls total. The catch tray under the bowls send the over flow water thru PVI to the trees in my back yard. Adjust the water pressure on the top of the sprinkler valve and I run it for 5 minutes every day, flushes everything out very nicely. This system I have been using for the last 20 years.

In my breeding loft I use a swamp cooler float in a plastic tub feeding the watering to the water cups thru plastics tubing (clear 7/16” if I remember right from home depo). The cups have a little yellow lever that lets the water in, the birds push the lever when the water gets low. They work real nice, those I have been using only 2 years.

The only training ever needed is to show a pigeon that gets moved from the kit box to the breeding loft, after the second day when he is thirsty I push the yellow lever and he will find the water real fast. They only have to be shown once. Going right into the breeding pen, if the cup is full one time they never need to be shown.

The cup with the cover over it is in the loft for the extra hens, they can can get poop in it so it has the cover.

Fire Brewed....I REALLY like your breeding loft. I wished our winters here weren't so bad. I'd really like to have a set-up like that. I too use the individual breeding compartments like you have, but they are enclosed inside my loft.
