Okay.. Guys... I got sum rollers now all cocks( 6 )....But they are last yrs birds and they did fly for Rick, the guy I got them from.. What are some of the ways that I can settle them to their new kit box? And about how much time am I looken at to settle them? I have plenty of time for
however long it takes.

Paul,

One of the best ways is to put a wire cage in front of their trap. The cage does not have to be large, maybe 12"deep, x 12" high, x 24in long, or something similar. Make one side WITHOUT wire, place this side tight against your kit box, so that they can still go through the trap. Now, place the birds in this cage every day in the morning, then in the evening call them back through the trap. I would do this for about 3 to 4 weeks since they have been flown at another person's house. Just my 2 cents.

Hi Paul,

I agree with caleb but I also alternate between the cage against the trap and a simular cage on top of my highest kit box for more visibility.

Paul. I use a wire cage that is 2 feet wide x 4 feet high x 4 feet deep.I have it cut out to rest on the trap door and up on to the roof. The young can come out and fly up on the kitbox roof any time they want to.I trap train this way and when I take the cage away I seldom have a problem with the young not landing where they spent the last 2 weeks. They also can watch the other birds flying and when hawks hit the wire cage they learn about the danger before they are out free.
With older birds you may have to let them in the cage for 4 weeks and I would reccomend it. David

Paul,

I am glad to hear that you hooked up with Rick and got you some birds to start with. How are you doing with your kit box? Give me a call sometime...

Thanks guys for all your helpful hints. Iam using a settling cage now that is 2'x2'x3' that extends up on the roof and on the landing board. I ll just have to waith another 2 wks and see if they STAY
