The differences and disagreements, on these sites are mainly caused by ,fellows that compete, and guys that enjoy the birds for what" Lifetimes have been spent" try ing to perfect. Its a known fact that many, many,ONE TIME PERFORMERS have lost the ability to perform.Due to guys "improving" them ,The competition birds 'WILL" change the rollers bred for it,as time goes on. I read 5 reasons for the better bird, I agree, FOR COMPETITION...BUT ILL be dam if i will ruin these great old familys, bred true, cherished, for yrs. FOR A $3.00 TROPHY,? The 5 reasons posted, would not even come close to the reasons that it takes to maintain the old Familys....Please dont misunderstand,I am all for your Competitions, GO MAN GO, Just understand WE ARE NOT ALL INTO CONTESTING. So answering some of these guys, remember some just enjoy the birds for what they really are....LEO

Leo,

Yes, I have noticed there's two main issues that seem to cause a lot of disagreements. One is fancy colors bred into the Birmingham Rollers via other breeds VS the natural colors of the breed. The other is back yard fliers VS competition fliers.

On the issue of crossing into other breeds for fancy colors, I'm against that.

On the issue of back yard fliers VS competition fliers, I believe both sides have legitimate points.

On one hand everyone doesn't have to conform their birds to competition flying rules because maybe you might like birds that perform different than the competition rules dictate.

On the other hand, competition is good for the breed overall because it causes the competitors to breed the very best possible performance into their birds.

On the other hand......... I have five fingers. :)

Leo,

I've heard a lot about your family. Could you please describe their performance?
