Does feeding the hawks before flying your good kit help protect them? What I mean is, I've been told hawks are territorial and there's only one in your area. If so, would it work to send up a kit of culls for the hawk to feed on before your best kit is sent up? That way he'd already have eaten and wouldn't bother your best kit. Just a question, maybe a dumb one, I don't know.

Alan, I've heard some say it works for them. I tried it and I don't know if the chum squad became better at evading hawks than the performing kit or what but I would not lose any from the chum squad but as soon as I put up the performers they would be hit. If ya have a bunch of culls it's worth a try. Dan

I wonder if you could clip their wings a little or use a fancy breed that can't fly very well but is a bigger bird with a lot of meat on it. I hope it wouldn't have the opposite effect, making your back yard a hawk feeding station.

Alan.If you see one there is probably 4 or 5 more that you are net seeing. As for the Chum kit;It will work for awhile but they soon figure out what is going on and will lay in wait untill something tempts them.Usually it is a weak bird or one that is doing a lot of work and attracts their attention more.90% of my attacks come when the kit is coming down.Remember all I have is Coopers,Sharps and an occasional Redtail attack.
