Hey Guys...I have a question? I have a hen thats sitting on 2eggs.The cock died? She has been sitting on them for about a week.At times i see her off them. All my pairs layed at the same time & i dont have fosters. My question is...Do i stick it out with her? or can i stick them under 2 other hens? I Dont want too throw away anyones eggs..just want to know can it happen?......Any feedback would be HIGHLY THANKFUL...Trying to make it 2 Level 1....LOL..keep on Flying!!!!

Hey Level,

I would say take a sharpie permenent marker and put a small dot on each egg. If all your pairs laid at the same time (or within about a day or two of each other)Just place each egg under a different pair , so that two of your pairs will have three eggs. When they hatch you should be able to tell what baby is from who.LOL.I have read on another site that after the baby hatches to color its toe-nails black (with the marker), that way you can tell which baby was fostered and which was not. The pairs should handle 3 babies just fine. Just make sure you feed your breeders well if they have 3 per nest. Just my two cents.

Hey,

I know where the sharpie and toe nail thing came from...LOL! I have done it a couple of times...putting 3 eggs under a pair. But make sure that you pick a really good pair. I have a couple pair of breeders that could handle 4 chicks...lol! Put them under some pairs that are either bigger birds or ones that you know that could handle 3 babies...usually the older pairs can handle it.

Hi.Chances are that all your eggs will not hatch for all your pairs. You can switch the extra young to a pair that only hatches one.Just remember to keep good records of all the switching.LOL.Thank God for Sharpies. David
