hey guys I got my spot of flight picked out and pretty much got the kit box built. Now i am wanting to paint. I am wanting to go a bright but not to bright. Don't want to freak the birds out everytime they land. I have an idea of what to paint it but before i wanted to hear all i could from you guys. I haev seen some with big X's on the top in red. I thought that was a good idea, a certain mark for the birds to recognize.

But as always i would like to hear some of your guy's comments first.

Thanks a lot !

I think the big red "X" would be helpful to the birds as they dont have to search much & can see better from the sky at a glance.

I think I would go a yellow X instead of red just for contrast as it would be easier to see , red is also an alarm color to animals etc , you could prolly even have that yellow X on their feed tray and only show the top of the box X when you want them to come in .

Good luck Rod

Hi Cam..,
I know a fellow here who doesn't fly portable but uses something similar to what portable guys use to lure their birds to their kit box. The guy I know has Large Bright Red chirstmas lights hooked up in a star shape on top of his loft. He turns it on when daylight starts fading off and the birds haven't crimbed down from the sky yet. He also leaves it on if a overfly occurs - for any bird to home in on if lost in the dark. He told me that these landing lights has saved many birds from being lost.
I heard of guys leaving their portable kit box behind at the location because they suffered a overfly. Maybe putting lights on a portable is over doing it... but it's just something to think about.
I would go with anything that is neon colored - Orange would be my suggestion.
Thor
