Last night when handling one of my hens I noticed an egg just about showing itself. This morning I looked in expecting to see the egg in the nest but it has not moved. Is it possible she is egg bound. What is the timescale for the laying process. Am I being impatient or is there something I should do to help, I have heard a little steam can help but am rather weary to try it without some further advice.

if the bird starts to show listness or ruffled and weak you must work the egg out!!!! first try to massage the egg through the abdomin and work it out if that doesnt work then the best way i have found is to get a feeder seringe and push some vegitable oil into the vent. as a last resort you can apply gental yet firm pressure to the egg and try to crack the shell. please understand this is a LAST RESORT as this is a cure or kill method. i had some russian minis that had a big problem with binding and got rather good at working eggs out. hope this helps chris
