I was wondering if those address bands bother the bird & if it effects the performance? Also which do you think is better the bigger address ones or the smaller bands?

I don't know CHALO, but ask yourself this, if I cut the bottom out of a 2 gallon bucket and slipped it over Greg Luganis' leg and had him do a tripple backward dive would it effect his performance? Now put 2 buckets on, one on each leg, any differance? I know the older guys like the large printed plastic bands now that their eyesight is going, that's understandable. But don't tell me its also good for the bird. The small english style aluminum bands work best and are 1/3 the weight of the large plastic bands. Also to consider is the fact that the large plastic bands can be removed or put on a rollers legg at any time. They are not by any means permanent. A roller with plastic identifying bands can be anything. I won't buy a roller with one, unless you know the breeder. That's the whole thing about seamless aluminum bands, light and permanent.

WHP,
Those are some pretty big shoe's you are trying to fill there! LOL The five gallon bucket on the leg of a diver, doesnt make any sense at all to me. I have seen hundreds of birds roll in great form and true, with the name bands and big plastic on.. Either the weight is not enough to effect the roll, or five gallon buckets on their legs, don't bother them at all..
Having said that, I don't like the big bands either, because then can be put on and taken off a full grown roller. If your rollers have feet large enough, you can't take these bands off, you might start looking to see if your breeding the roller type! Its getting expensive to buy small roller bands, but its still cheap compared to most sports or hobbies.. Mongrel Lofts

Are you fellows talking about the IPB Plexiglass bands that Foys sell & the Plexiglass name bands that NBRC sells or is their a bigger type band with bigger numbers? David

DAVID WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE ADDRESS ONES WITH THE PLASTIC COVERS (NBRC SELLS)& COMPARING TO THE SMALLER ALUMINUM ONES.I WANTED TO KNOW HOW OTHER PEOPLE FEEL ABOUT THEM & IF IT AFFECTS THE BIRDS PERFORMANCE WITH THE SEASON COMING UP.FOR INSTANCE "I DIDNT KNOW THEY COULD BE SLIPPED OFF,ON A FULL GROWN ROLLER".IT SEEMS LIKE PEOPLE LEAN MORE TOWARD TO THE SMALLER ONES.

I have used them for the past couple of years.Mainly due to not be able to see the numbers on the other bands. It does not effect the rolling and they DO NOT come off the leg.I have rollers that weigh as little as 6 oz. and you can,t remove the band.I had used the ones from Foys (IPB plexiglass) but got the Personalized numbered bands from NBRC this year. Both are the same size.I really like them.Especially the ones I got from NBRC.They have my Name,Phone Number & the number(your choice) of each band. The Snap On bands they sell are really nice too.David

I too use the plastic ones like the NBRC, but they are from our local club with the club initials. I prefer them over the aluminum ones because I can see them from many feet away, such as when a good or bad bird lands I can see the number on it without having to try and catch it or trap it in and get confused. The bigger numbers are a real bonus if you ask me. I once used the personalized bands and put them on the opposite leg obviously. The bands do not effect the bird's ability to roll and you don't have to "balance" them out with one on both legs..lol.

I also use the plastic coated NBRC bands and like them much better than the aluminum ones for the same reasons Brian stated. I have never found them to be removable. Maybe the name and address bands are larger and possibly removable; I have not used them in a few years but when I did use them I never found them removable either.

Thanks all for your input.Im thinking of ordering some from NBRC.Is 100 the least they will sell you of the name, number bands? I dont think i will use 100 bands maybe 50 to make it worth it for them.

Yes, 100 is the minimum order on personalized bands from NBRC. I considered using them with the year entered on one line also but will not need 100 per season. The alternative is to order 50 regular NBRC bands for the year and then get 100 personalized bands without the year on them, and then double band your birds. You'll have enough personalized bands for two years. Total cost for two years of double banding would be the same or a little less than buying 100 personalized (with the year) per year and scrapping the half of them that you do not use. Also by double banding your birds you will prevent sideways rolling from being off balance with only one band LOL!
