What barometer reading is ideal for flying rollers ?

Do alot of flyers pay attention to the barometer readings ?

What barometer reading is dangerous for flying rollers (overflies)?

Thanks George

Gerorge,

I don't beleive it is dangerous. Rather, it makes the rollers fly higher up than normal. Sometimes you think they are touching the clouds.

I usually look up to the sky b4 flying my birds, and if other birds are flying very high, then I know my rollers will too.

I have studied it with my birds for the last few years and once thought that higher barometers were worse than lower barometer readings. In actuality, the birds tend to stay lower on the low end and can, but not always, rise up high on the high barometer. It depends on the humidity. The denser the air, the more lift they get with each wing stroke. The thinner or drier the air, the less lift they have unless they can benifit from thermals due to the earth warming in the mornings. The ultimate I have found where I live is for the barometer to between 29.00-30.00 and steady. The key is steady. The worse times to fly are when the barometer is rising or falling as the air is really moving around up there in those conditions. Of course, when I say worse, it is in reference to being not ideal as steady readings can be. More important than pressure is the humidity and dewpoint from my observations. If the dewpoint is near the actual air temp, that is when I get the best performances from from team. Don't know why, but that is one characteristic that remains constant.
Brian.
