Estimating the nature of rolling performance is anything but trivial as an observational exercise. Aside from how high the birds may be flying, what is the state of the sky condition? If the sky against which the pigeons are seen is cloudy or overcast there will be more glare in the observr's eyes than if viewed against a blue sky. The color and pattern of a bird will affect how easily it is seen and the perception of its size in the air. For example, under many conditions a black self would apear larger than an equal sized black white-flight; both might appear different in size than a red check. Diffferent apparent sizes can easily affect the observer's estimation of the tightness and depth of roll.
Question..Is this the reason why some rollermen say that the harder color birds have tighter roll and deeper as indicated in ealier posts?
Question..Is this way allot of rollermen have allot of dark color birds in their compition kits? Thanks Jay

Good one Jay !!!!! illusion plays a large part, I wouldnt say that most guys that compete fly dark checks though by any means. Dark checks look best under a clear blue Sky as do red checks, blue checks, Rec Reds, and bars. Under a cloudy or overcast day every little flaw is magnified. the light colored birds and white flighted birds look the best under cloudy or overcast days as the wings just blend into the sky giving the appearance of a bird thats smoken and it will hides the flaws. A truelly good bird looks flawless no matter what the condition of the sky is.

Does that mean compition rollermen would have two "A" Teams. One kit consist of dark color birds while the other have light color birds. This way, they can fly the kit is best situated for the day of the fly. Say dark kit for clear sky and light kit for overcast and cloudy sky. Thanks.
