Hey George, I assume you mean the commonly used flying roller term "lavender" which is actually genetically incorrect. What I think your friend is referring too is the result of mating a red bar to a black self. Basically the soft bluish hue of a clean "lavender" roller is spread ash red bar. Spread ash red checks tend to show red lacing. A clean red bar to a black is definitely the best method if he has none. Just for clarification, true lavender from the genetic standpoint is Milky Spread Blue. Both Milky Spread Blue and Spread Ash Red Bar (void of color intensifiers) result in a very similar soft bluish or silver expression.

George, There is a true LAVENDER the last ones were brought to this country in 1966 ...Bill Pensom brought them here. To breed for them would be a tiresome task, The combination of colors mentioned will only give you silvers....you cannot breed red or black into lavenders. If your friend were close to me i would gladly set him up with LAVENDERS...they are gorgous pigeons, not only that they are very consistant in producing exceptional spinners.TAKE CARE.....LEO

Leo, do you have any clue what real LAVENDAR and backyard roller talk Lavender are? Are you saying that old Willy brought over Milky Spread Blue rollers or are you saying he brought over Spread Ash Red Bar rollers? Please clarify. They both have the same name but one is a roller term and one is a genetic term.
Brian.

George, I would'nt hold my breath waiting for Leo to give out his E-Mail. He's too busy playing his 'cat and mouse' game with Scott and Brian. I sincerely asked him to E-Mail me about the info on the roller study back in the 60's or give me a website so I could read about the study (so did Steve, Red, and a couple others), but to this day, no reply. Leo, if you are reading this I WANT TO READ ABOUT THE ROLLER STUDY!

A good comparison for what Brian is referring to would be the following. The "Silver" in Lahores is actually the Spread Milky on Blue OR Milky Black. The Lavender color in a roller, as it's commonly referred to, is Spread (Black) crossed over an Ash Red-Bar, Check, T-Pattern, etc. If the Black is pure for spread, it should avoid the "ticking" or "lacing" effect in the offspring. But there's a good comparison for you to consider and if you ever need a starting point to see the differences in the genetic make up.

Take care,
Eric
