I have a bird that has "sour crop". I discovered it a couple days ago. I was instructed to give it water with a bit of baking soda. Then try to milk the crop to rid it of the nasty stuff. the bird is still alive and seems to have eaten a small bit of seed.
Any other ideas?

Pouter and cropper breeders use Pepto-Bismol. Milk it if you can. If you can't, lance the crop about 1/2 inch and remove the souring contents. When I raised croppers years ago I used a sock to put pressure on the crop and force the contents up above their intake that leads to the stomach. Good luck.

Thanks Brian,
I milked it once last nite and once this morning, after injecting baking soda/water mix into the crop.No sour contents but the liquid smelled bad. She is still hanging on,Droppings are loose but look a bit more normal. Gonna use some pepto in a bit.Put some vitamins and small amount of anti biotics in the water.
Wish me luck.

Red, remove the water from her pen. The problem begins with excess water consumption. Once you give her the pepto, take the water away from her until tomorrow, then let her take a drink then take it away again.

I took away the water about six hours after the pepto. Can I readminister the pepto tomorrow?
She is alert and seems okay for now.
