At about 3 months of age, one of the baldheaded mealy cock with bull eyes, which was an early developed roller that rolled and spinned with speed, showed what I thought at first that had damaged his right eye. I noticed him after his flight and landing on the roof of the house that he was keeping the right eye shut. Once he was in the kit box, I noticed that the right eye was not black any more rather orange with a black center, but looked funny as it was not centered correctly in the eye socket. He kept on opening and closing it constantly. I put him on antibiotic to prevent an infection. After a week or so his right eye was a pearl in color with a black center and looked very normal as it sits in the eye socket. Now he is an odd eye bird, one is black and the other is pearl. I know that there are odd eye birds around, but this is strange how it happened. Is this a normal process to odd eye birds? I have never seen a bird changes eye colors b4 and I am just wondering if anybody has, and if it was similar experience like mine. Thanks

Brian,

This is no shroom man, really. I was afraid that the bird had damaged his eye, but obviously he was in the process of changing eye color. I have seen many birds with odd eyes but never seen how the change took place. For those fanciers who raised young birds, have they ever seen such a thing happen. It was funny that I read in this forum that birds change eyes at about three month of age and soon after this happened. Some of the posts here, were also talking about bleeding right eye of some birds, which I never knew b4, and I even checked him for that, but was not the case.

I wish it never happened because he looked allot better with bull eyes. Anyway, any input from all others would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have had young birds with dark eyes that became colored as they aged a little. They did not appear to be bull eyed to me though, just dark brownish. My bull eyed birds have black eyes from the start.
