Hello Guys, The youngsters giving me problem. They're about 6-7 weeks old.

I have smaller yard and kit box is sitting very close to loft. There are two fly pen attached to loft and breeders most of the time sitting out side and getting fresh air. As soon as I release youngster they just go and sit on loft's fly pen as breeders are sitting there as well. Any advice? I am thinking of removing loft's fly pen in this way the youngsters would not see breeders and may fly. This will have -ve effect of breeders as they can not get fresh air and sun? Any alternative?

Here is a loft pics with two fly pens on each side and kit box can be hardly see on left hand side

Any alternative?

Yah, lock the breeders in the loft, then get a long pole with a plastic bag on it and scare those little turdheads up until they stay up..lol. I have to do that from time to time as I often will have a new bunch of babies milling about on the kit box roof while another kit is flying. Hard to keep the one up, but it sure makes training the baby kit much easier.
Brian.

Brian, Should I lock them up permanently? Otherwise as before releasing the kit I need to push they back in loft and if this I need to do on daily bases it would be bit of work. Some are just too strong and just do not want to go in. Thanks, -Rauf

Who's the boss, them or you? LOL. If it appears that is the source of the problem, which is sounds like it could be, then yes, makes sure the other birds are inside before releasing the young kit. If not, then take the young kit to the front yard or somewhere else close by and release them there so they have to climb up above the house. If you can't get those breeders back inside, then use a blanket or piece of plywood and cover up the fly pen so the kit can't see.
Brian.

yep! sounds great Brian. I will push breeders inside the loft and lock them up there for a while. I pushed kit birds by flagging them today and they did fly around a bit. Probably they will pick up in couple of days.

Thanks, -Rauf

Hi Rauf,
I had a similar problem. The squeekers would try to go inside the breeders cage through the sun pen. I figure they did this because they say familiar birds (parents) and a familiar loft. Do you squeekers go to the sun pen before they are moved? If so, I think this may make the problem a bit worse.

I think I solved my problem. What I was doing was placing the squeekers in the kit box roof before they got used to their new home (the kit box). So I would get them all and place them on the roof of the kit box. I don't even think they knew where they were. This last round of squeekers were placed in the kit box for 3-5 days before they were let loose in the yard and/or roof. This time I didn't place them on the roof either, rather I let them get out of the box by themselves and thus fly to the kit box roof when they are ready. The 3-5 days was enough to make the kit box their "new home" and they don't bother with the sun pen anyore.

AD3, I was not too brief on my original post. Yes you got me, I did put youngsters in breeders' loft fly pen when they were about 3-4 weeks old.

There were two reasons behind it. First since my kit box has no fly pen I put them in there so they can see where they are, second when I feed breeders they will try to copy them and feed/water themselves. I was successful in both however that put me in this problem. Next time I will try to do some thing different

Thanks, -Rauf

Rauf some of my very young will do the same thing for just a short bit. But once they are up flying they seem to develope an independace and could care less about anything except thier perch in the kitbox.
