Question: I have a cock bird that mates everything it can, how many eggs will a hen have to lay be asbent of his sperm? will it just take two eggs or what? Thanks, James

Wow James, that bird sounds just like me..lol. J/K. Hens have a tract in them where they actually store the sperm of the male for I believe up to 10 days. When the egg is produced, the embryo is created using the most recent sperm transfer. In other words, if you are concerned, toss her first set of eggs after the horny cock treading, then her next set, as long as she is still with her correct mate, should be fine...unless the horny bugger is still in the loft. Then all bets are off..lol. Wanna teach him a lesson, give him a mean old Modena hen for a mate, preferrably one that has been mated up to a hen for a long time. He will thing twice before sharing his seeds with the loft again..lol.
Brian.

James If you are breeding open loft he'll cause havoc plus they tend to breed more of the same. In the kitbox thse type of cocks produce very cocky cocks and are more of a pain than they are worth. Personally I don't put up with this nonsence, just too much trouble.

Scott, We talked about this before but I never asked you what you do with an exceptional cockbird that does everything right except is to cocky in the kitbox. Would you cull him just for that reason?

Mark it's been my experiance with "my" birds that they just ruin themselfs anyway, If they are a pain in the kit for any reason then yes I cull them. They must be good citizens to be a good rollers. I want henny cocks, the type that won't drive unless fed up and not flown, I will tolorate a little tiny bit of it as long as they are'nt showing any problems within the kit once up such as wing clapping and trying to pull hens out of the kit. I don't tolerate all out driving in the kitbox though. Keep in mind if underflown and overfed this will compound this behavior but the oversexed one's are a problem regardless.

Scott

PS If I could figure out how to castrate these lil suckers I would LOL
