A good friend, Budd (Hifly) must give up his birds. He has no choice, it's a health issue. The talc like dust our birds make has caused him much suffering. I am the world's worst, I never wear a mask but Budd's misfortune has me thinking! I'm not going to say I will wear a mask everyday, although I should but I will try to wear a good filter style mask when I clean. Come to think of it, that's everyday! :) My point is, if you want to keep your birds, think of your health, PLEASE WEAR A MASK! I am going to post a couple of pictures of Budd's setup and you will understand why I said "clean has nothing to due with it"

On several occasions I have had to get medical help for this same reason. I now wear a mask pictured here. It's from INOVEL, a 1500 series N95 with nose cushion and blue straps and it "doesn't' have laytex in it

Hey Donny, That is being smart my friend. Keep telling your mom to wear her mask, everytime!

Take care my little buddy!

Paul, I have been married four times, it took me three to get it right! I was in Nam, and I have seen a world on fire from 100 feet in the air, at night! That Mohawk and mask combo is one scary picture! :) big smile! Only kidding buddy!
I am looking at a dry wall filter mask. I will post equally scary pictures or worse, after I buy it! :)

Take care my friends

A dust mask is better than nothing but all of you who have pigeons and go in and clean there loft should have a good painters mask $35 - $50 dollars, but add 20 years to your life . AND GUY'S NO ARGUMENT HERE Get one. Dennis

Dust is one of the few areas of expertise that I have. For ten years I wore a masked attached to a hose that I put through a pipe in the side of my loft so I could breathe fresh outside air because no mask could filter out the dust that I was so sensitive to. For the last ten years I have never entered my loft without a mask. USE A N-100 MASK!. N-95 masks only remove 95 percent of the fine dust. The best mask and the only one I would use is the 3M 8233 mask. Google It, the cost is about eight dollars but lasts about 6 weeks. I use two and switch off every other day. Wayne

Hi all, Budd here. The mask I used is a (3M P100 Particulate Respirator). But it is hard to wear it all the time, the dust gets on your hands and clothes. And in my case I was vary sensitive to the dust. Also I think a exhaust fan in the breeding coop would help.Take care my friends.

Hey Thom.... two things I forgot to mention. First of all my better half(wife)is in the medical field. She brought these masks home for me. She says she "needs" to keep me around as long as possisble...ha ha. These are the H1N1 used for the prevention of the "FLU" bugs...
And secondly... the Mohawk helps scare the BOP away....LOL

Hey all and Budd, I have sanded drywall and complained, I can't stand the mask. When I first started in the fire service, the old timers would laugh if you wore a mask. All we had were old military gas masks. Later, with the realization of how many firefighters were being retired on a medical because of lung problems due to smoke inhalation and that it shortened our lifespans, they invented self contained breathing apparatus.
I have issues from all the smoke already, so if I want to keep my birds long term, I need to wear a mask. It is not about like, it's about need! Old guy sounds like he knows what he is talking about and I plan on following his advise, Thanks Wayne! I urge everyone, even the young who think the can never die, please wear a mask.

Take care
Thom

I wear a MSA 2307 mask, it has small air filter canisters on both sides of the nose mask.It also has a head basket with straps so that you can tighten mask to your face. Place your hands over the canisters and breath in, the mask should form a suction over your nose and mouth. It works well. I also wear eye protection when cleaning. Home depot sells this. PS, I am not a sponsor for home depot, just letting you know were I got mine.
