No difference Dave. The shape of the head is merely a characteristic of the family or respresentative of a cultivated strain in the past. Usually a big head will be a stronger, stiff bird while the three-angle head, to me, tends to be the better birds across the board. That said I have them with all types of shapes and sizes, (well, no big uns)and it's just a matter of taste. If I picked my best five rollers from the A-team, two might have the same head, the rest would be different.

Hi David S.,
I like my birds to have a noticable forehead with not too much back head. The head doesn't matter as much as it does to match the over all makeup of the bird. Meaning, I don't want a huge head on a small bird nor would I want a small head on a huge bird.
One thing I have noticed about heads are that the majority of roll downs I have seen have a really all around head. Must just be me and my crazy observation tho. (grin)
What's your take on really round heads? I know there are some familys who have this trait and I don't care much for but then again, we like what we know within are own family - so kill me. (grin)
I don't know why but people don't seem to talk about the back head of a roller as much. Do you have any input on back heads?
Flying them,
Thor

Thor, the topic of back skull as we call it in my show Wests is a common conversation. Basically there are two points of view and both are accurate. Some birds that have more back skull actually will have a larger skull or more length to the skull while the flip side is the illusion of back skull presented by excess feather. It seems more typical for a bird with more back skull to have excess feather, or should I say more of it as compared to a more normal looking roller head.

Do you mean which is better, the American Roller or the Birmingham Roller? Or do you mean are the rollers flown in America or the ones flown in England better?
Brian.
