I do not, but alot do lock them down. The main reason is "Air Sharks" or weather. If they didn't they wouldn't have anything to fly. I have a good friend that lives in the Bay Area that locks them up from Oct.-March.

I lock down the best rollers from late September/early October...when ever the hawks get bad until about April. I fly my culls during that time and see if any develope the roll. Most get eaten by January. If the hawks are very skilled or numerous I won't fly anything for fear of attracting and keeping the hawks around to nest in the spring. I just received notice of the NBRC fall fly for my region in the end of October. If I continued to fly my good birds to keep them in shape for that fly I would not have anything decent to put up by that time. I hate locking down good birds but I want something to fly next spring, and something to choose future stock birds from. Dan

George, I don't lock down at all unless I get a routine hammering by a falcon, at which time I will shut the older teams down for a week or so. I shut the older team off to molt, but that is about the only break they will get. Brian.
