I believe there are good reasons why he should be called "King" and he is already a legend in the fancy to many. I've heard different things about Jerry Higgins stock, mind you these may be all rumors or just gossip. I have heard about an incident with Norm Reed where Jerry attained some quality breeders from Norm. I have also heard that some of it comes from Jaconnette and from Ron Kumro. Maybe a CPRC member like Brian can help us out with this one. ---------- AD3 Online Loft @ http://ad3rollers.no-ip.com

if you believe there are good reasons to call him 'king' then let's hear them. You also know of an 'incident' of how he got good birds from someone name Norm Reid, what incident are you talking about? if this guy is king someone should back it up with reasons why instead of empty statements

I don't think I can really answer those questions as you may want them answered because I have never seen or visited his loft. I have certainly heard very much about this man and his rollers. There is a person that posts in this forum that is a member of the local club Jerry is in. I am sure he can answer some of the questions you ask with more accuracy and information that myself. I will just give you a little information about him.
I do not know exactly why people started calling him Jerry "The King" Higgins but this is not the first time I have heard or read it. I am pretty sure many people would not disagree with nicknaming him that or anything similar. This in no way should belittle any of the other great fanciers of the past or present. He is highly esteemed and in the ranks of many of the great fanciers today. Are you an NBRC member? If so, do you read through it? I just joined NBRC late last year but there are many mentions of his name on there. He is a NBRC Master Flyer award recipient and in the NBRC Hall Of Fame. He may be the only one that is awarded both. Unfortunately, I have never met and spoken to Jerry (just quick hello) but from what I hear, he is a very nice man who has done much for the hobby as far as promoting it and promoting clubs. The following is perhaps due to the fact that I live in California but many people speak great things of him and his birds. I just visitied Rod Fomby (1997 World Cup USA winner) who has seen his kits and said they were unbelievable. He may have been more popular in the past years, I am not too sure. I have seen kits that work with some of his family and rollers that are in many of the lofts around here carrying his blood are highly esteemed. Anyone else can give this guy (ANON) more info. Help is appreciated. Thanks. ---------- AD3 Online Loft @ http://ad3rollers.no-ip.com

AD, I won't get into a discussion about rumors or hear-say though Jerry and I do gentlemanly disagree on topics, he is a friend and a fellow club member. Jerry likes to refer to his birds as HIS birds and not Jaconette or any other name from whom birds may have passed through his lofts over the years. Jerry's email and phone number are in the NBRC directory and I am sure he would enjoy conversations about his pigeons. Brian.

All of his birds go back to Reed/Jaconette. Probably cross out...look at the original question.
