Just a thought guys. Perhaps the color breeders should just call their birds Performing Rollers and the name Birmingham Roller can be left to the competition guys. I should think this would peacefully end the debate and be agreeable to both sides.

What do you think?

I've always called my rollers "performing rollers", but regardless of color or family they came from, I like to think that I'm forwarding the hobby, rather than inhibiting it. Therefore, in the eyes of competition guys, only the Birmingham Roller is acceptable. I just don't know what to call mine anymore. Birp-forming Rollers maybe? Just my 2 cents worth.

Anon--If you feel you are forwarding the hobby and progressing your family of birds to your liking, then I say RIGHT ON! Keep in mind that not all comp guys think only a Birmingham Roller is acceptable. Its not something only comp guys subscribe too, in fact, there are more proprietors of the past Pensom/Birmingham lineage not flying comps than those who are. The guys flying comps are just in the limelight and more active. The NBRC promotes the Birmingham Roller, but the World Cup does not. I know of more folks who like yourself, call their birds performing rollers over Birminghams for whatever their choice. As long as they make you happy and you are cool with it, game on!
Brian.

Thanks Brian! I only wish that the view of people like me, wasn't that of a color breeder alone. Because I'm not a comp guy, and I do focus on color, I'm looked at as a contamintor of the breed (just like the old Show Roller) discussion, rather than someone that's doing a good job about promoting the hobby.

Thanks for your post though!
Kevin
