Do you think it is essential for a Starter to have a double kit box so he/she can work with birds of different age groups?

I highly recommend building a double kitbox or building 2 single ones. This way you can seperate birds based on age, sex or quality.

Having only a single box will make things very difficult unless you plan on being a backyard flyer...

I would go so far as to say that 3 kit boxes is the minimum. One old bird box and two young bird boxes. One is definitely not enough.
