Hi Scott

English rules 10 points for every quality bird, 30 points for kitting (if a bird is out for longer than 30 sec you loose all kitting points) and the breaks.

I'm not totally familiar with the system. I have heard about it but have never really read the rules, show me a set of rules if you would, or explain the rules in more detail.

I'll take the WC format... Although this format would have kept me on the clock scoring the WC even though I boned up the kit and they split in two.. it was like amature day.

Thanks Jim
After acually reading the rules, I pretty much knew them just from hearsay over the years.
What I don't understand is why you would judge a kit after it has split when you give merit kitting points. It seem like that would be a big deal to have a kit split up?
How do you break down the addition 200 pts for quality? Give me an example if you would.

Scott, I like you prefer the WC format.

Brad, you get 10 pts per bird for quality. So if you have say 9 really high quality spinners in your kit, then you get 90 quality points.

By the way, I really enjoyed your kit while in UT recently judging. I was absolutely taken back when you told me they had only been flown a few times in the weeks prior to the day I judged them. That is a nice family of rollers you have there, and I really like what I saw at Blake's, he has done a great job with them! Deepest damn birds I ever saw were at Blake's, what the heck happened in the finals?

I didn't get to see Blakes final fly but I heard that they were working a bit to high for the judge to score. When it get down to it.. he choked just like most of the earlier flyer did this year..just a weird year for that.
This is a fun family of birds Blake and I are working with.
I had 5 to 7 birds left from Fall that were in the kit (8 or 9 breeders then 5 BOP) and the rest were young birds. I had to lock down for most of the spring then flew the birds 3 or 4 times in a two week period to get ready for that fly. I slightly over feed the kit you watched, they were a bit flat.
It is a fun frustrating game we play with these rollers at times..lol

Brad, nice family of rollers you guys got going there! I have been talking to Blake about them. Do you have to really keep the feed in check on them to keep them from flying too long? Seems like Blake said something to that effect? He also said he has worked hard on getting them to come in the roll very early, how about you?

It is easy to get them to fly period, they are a very strong bird. The first year is easy to keep the birds in check it is the second season that you have to watch the feed can as well as the amount of time flown. You saw them they are smaller in size and get fit really easy that is one reason it didn't take long to get my team ready for the regionals.

I really don't like birds that come into the roll to early. I like them to get some good habits, mature then really start working come oct/nov. One thing I do not like is birds that don't roll by fall, that was not the case when I first got the birds to work with. Basically now days this family rolls as good as they are going to by the first year.

Hi Jim... good reading. I learned a few things here that were quite interesting. It appears South Africa had more contestants in the fly than England which is unbelievable considering the U.K. is where it all began. Referring to the beginning of competition rollers many, many, many years ago... and not the Anglo-African Cup itself.

...well anyway

Thanks for sharing.
