do you think a Bird with a short and stocky neck with a wide chest will spin better then a Bird with a thinner and longer neck and narrow chest ?????

Which Bird do you think will be more flexible and why ???

George, it is probably like anything else. Some families may be thicker and bullier and perform good, and another may have the same features and perform like crap.
More than likely, it boils down to how each fancier breeds his family of birds.

Excellent question! I suppose this is a study of how propellers work. Assuming they have the same surface area, the longer neck ones may spin faster. Now if one has greater surface area like the wide chested one with equal neck lengths, I suppose that will spin faster, too. Maybe an optimum configuration or balance is the key. I am just guessing. LOL!

With all things equel as far as roll impulse the bird that is more narrow will tend to roll faster and with better style.. but many times they will tend to be higher flyers.

Scott,

could be neither or equal. The wide chest, stocky one might end up looking like it is spinning faster, but that is an illusion. I am trying to imagine 2 rims with the same velocity, but one is bigger than the other one and the smaller rim looks like it is spinning faster.

I do agree that if everything is equal, the longer neck will probably spin faster, but will tire the bird faster, too, so it might not be frequent. And if the bird is frequent, it might not end up deep because it needs to conserve energy to go back up. Everything seems to be a compromise.

Those styles you refer to might even affect the performance. When the wing is too far out, it might create more drag, hence slowing the bird more so it will not spin faster compared to others. The H-style bird might spin faster than those x-wing. It would be like ballerina dancing/rotating. Once a ballerina extends his/her arm, it slows them down so they have to keep their arms closer to spin faster.

I have always felt at least in my birds that the longer cast narrow chested birds have always been my fastest and cleanest rollers. I have not noticed anything that would lead me to believe that they tired easier and or faster. Once in shape they handle just fine.
I might add that I get very few chesty short cobby birds so my experience has been with the longer cast birds for a lot of years. Joe
