Cull the young bird and clean your loft of any posibility of bacteriea. Clean your waterers, Clean any signs of mice or rats and disinfect the nest box and change out the bowl. Good luck. Joe

The young bird ounds like ( just by your description) to be suffering from paratyphiod. Which happens to be probably the most common ailment we have to deal with. I would still cull the young and then disinfect the loft while putting all of the stock birds on a good 4 & 1. Hopefully this will help. No guarentees but its a start. Joe

Was the bird a single? Could it have straddle leg and not be able to walk? Are any other birds acting like something is wrong?

Hay Jerry can it be straddle leg , often will happen when there is only one squab in the nest or,& not enough nesting material. If this is the case and your squab has a band on each leg tie a twist tie to them for 1 week If not double banded just tie the legs together.Good luck Dennis

You know I dont mean to offend anybody but a bird that looks ill and is struggling is very easy to tell the difference from a bird with straddled legs. Straddled leggs doesnt mean the bird wont look perfectly health. They will just struggle to get around but they will still try to get feed. A sick/ ill bird will give up trying to get feed and then the parents sence that there is something wrong and will give up and go into the breeding mode again. Monitor the young bird and see for yourself whether it is actually ill of something else. Put the bird on a solid surface with good traction and if the bird can't get it's leggs together then you have a young with straddled leggs. Let us know what you come up with. Joe

Hey Joe, No offence taken, but the original post did not provide much information. He did not say it looked sick, only that it did not walk.

Jerry the bird has it's wing out for balance, depending how old the bird is, and if it is straddled leg if it is fixable but why not give it a try. You can also do a site search straddle leg. good Luck Dennis

Jerry.... pick the youngster up and look at the legs, If they are not next to the body but one or both spreed to the side it's a good sign that it has straddled leg,s.the twisty,s work well to help heal this. You will probable have to hand feed if the parent's won't feed.Good luck JDA

this can also be due to dehydration, make sure it gets a good drink of water

Jnyce if it is straddle leg you should use sand in your nestbowls and then w/e else you give them to build a nest with. I started using sand and it works great.
