in my opinion, i think rollers are much harder than any ohter performance breed for one main reason. they don't cull themselves like racing homers or tipplers that just disappear during a super long fly. just think how easy it would be if the sloppy, short, non kitting roller would just not come back. each time a racer returns, he improves his worth by outlasting the bird which gets lost and doesn't return. this is all subjective, but the human element, and the inability to cull when necessary means forward progress will be slowed. i think the ability to see the best in the few, and avoid the rest is the ultimate test of a breeding program. i always wonder if i'll be able to part with what i used to think was a pretty good bird, in order to push forward and breed the best i can. for me, its rollers or nothing. at least for now! ;)
