If I had such a bird, I would get as many rounds out of her as possible using "foster". At least 4 or 5, depending when you first started... Just my poinion

A hen is born with all the eggs she will ever have. You are only going to effect that by health and stress. By fostering you eliminate the stress. Keep her healthy and you will get her full potential. I have seen as many as 14 rounds from a pair in a season with lots of fosters. I personally would shoot for 5 or 6 rounds. Joe

Jeff,

Joe has told you right. There are a finite number of eggs regardless. If you're going to pull eggs to foster from her, you will need to supplement her with calcium and minerals. Feed good quality ration, with plenty of protein to keep the eggs nutritive to the embryos. I also suggest that you pull 3 or 4 rounds then give her a rest for a couple weeks then pull from her again. Laying eggs isnt stressful, like feeding young, but it is a drain on her resources. You can just keep mining, you have to let her rechargeonce in a while.

Pull two rounds for foster, then let her raise a round. Repeat. Six round per season is about all that I have time for in the narrow window of fly time that I have. The last round is too late already!!!
