Funny you posted this Game I was just watching it and boy I really dont think Mike understands the birds as much as he loves them. He truely has the bug. He is and will always be an Icon to the sport of boxing to me but I dont think he will be nearly as successful with rollers. they seem to take a back seat to the other breeds for him. Which Im good with. I couldnt imagine trying to take care of 1600 pigeons. Joe

It's Monday morning at March 22nd 7: a.m.. I was watching the Morning Show here on our local station, in Ohio and they mentioned the "New" series that Animal Planet was going to start to air next year about Big Mike and his experience with pigeons. He wants to get into the racing aspect of pigeons.... And low and behold, already the "PETA" people already starting their
S H I T about it being a "cruel" and "inhumane"
sport. Why can't they just keep out of our business.... Iam so damn aggravited with them right now I could spit......do be polite.....LOL

i just don't understand PETA. they go after people who they know care about their animals, but they simply don't think anyone has the right to keep them. they don't agree that we should keep pigeons, even though the business of keeping animals also includes those we raise for food, which PETA members have no problem eating! PETA has done some good things, like exposing the meat industry when hidden video shows how much abuse is rampant thruout. they've also released tropical birds from northern US petstores during the winter, where the birds most certainly would die. they want to drive home their views, but fail to understand the opposition's. i've lost all respect for PETA, they simply paint all animal keepers with the same brush. we are not all gambling on pigeon racing, but even if we were, why should PETA care? horse racing is legal, so that's ok? my god, look at the horse racing scene and all their illegal doping! i'm not even going to go there. i'm really not surprised they've come out from under their rock to make trouble, since that's the only way they know how to get publicity. i would invite them to see first hand how well pigeon racers care for their birds. they state how cruel it is to release pigeons to fly 500 miles thru raptor infested skies. i don't see PETA giving the bop's a bad name for taking 'wild' pigeons! its just so ridiculous, and they've got their stinkin lobby in washington, so i'm sure more crap will be forthcoming. too bad, its such a nice thing to see some positives in our hobby, only to see them negated by these peta assholes.

What does PETA stand for? People Eating Tasty Animals? All joking aside I don't recognized PETA, what they say, do or campaign for is meaningless to me. Their all hypocrites.

PETA believes horse racing is okay because it is a money making endeavor for the rich and staid.

I have been a licensed thoroughbred race horse owner off and on since 1973 and I certainly have a working knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes in the racing game.
Those days of "illegal doping" in thoroughbred racing are long over, as they can test and detect anything now.
My point is, that we as animal and bird fanciers / racers / roller fliers etc. have to stick together and not knock each other, as that is what PETA and all of the other zealots like themselves would like to see happen.
One can find good and bad aspects in any sport that involves animals ( yes including roller flying ) and these mindless, unbending, fanatics like PETA only see the negative side of any animal issue.

Let's stick together and say and do only positive things about any of the other animal sports.

I think the best thing to do about PETA is to just let it go. They are NOT respected as much as you think they are.....PETA...ALF and many others are on the FBI watch list. They have done many illegal things behind closed doors. I know because every year they target the Primate Center in California as well as the Raptor Center as well as the Vet School...saying the college campuses are cruel to animals....make me crazy....The primate center is looking for cures for HIV, Cancer, T.B., H1N1 and the list goes on....they test on primates to help save humans...Many animal rights groups think they are testing make up and stuff like that on the primates...I assure you it is research only to save human lives....same for the Raptor Center....they say it is cruel to hold the BOP in cages...but they are all injured or have been real sick in the past and can never be released into the wild again..but they are still a target....they nail the vet school about how they are cruel to animals....yet these vets are training to help animals....very wierd.....I will say this...I have been around livestock all my life and Universities take care of there animals...the horses get shoes....like clock work...the best feed.....and best care being a vet school...but they always target....

They have been accused of ARSON, Vandalism and the list goes on...so they can toot all they want....they have no pull whatsover....they are drum beaters and that is it. We have studied ways that PETA and ALF torch buildings and what to look for from past cases. They have a very dark cruel side. Its funny how people pick animals over humans......

They torched Thurman Lab at UC Davis back in like 1989....they torched a building that was going to help save the lives of livestock by doing autopsies on large animals and they they test for cures for diseases in livestock...they torched a freak'n building that was going to help animals.....but they thought it was for again...doing some off the wall testing...they watch to much TV....

They forget that we cant all have farms and raise our own food and let the animals roam free.....we have millions of people to feed and there is only one way to do it....and that is mass livestock production and slaughter......SOme people have no COMMON SENSE>...

Oh by the way they all go home and turn on the TV and drive there cars...oh and update there web=-site......when they are all living in mud houses..with no electricity etc etc growing and eating there own food...then they can start yapping....

hey Paul, nice take on peta. i had heard that peta was on the fbi watch list, obviously for past infractions. very sad, because they actually have done some good things. i watched a video secretly taped at a slaughter house by one of them, and it depicted cruel treatment of animals. this person was risking his life, because i doubt he would have made it out had they caught him in the act. the problem is, as you and others have pointed out, they have an axe to grind, and invariably they have to pick on someone.
