This is Gary Taylor's bird. It is the bird that started his Black Hen family or strain.

Dave Henderson tried some birds from Gary Taylor about 6-8 years ago and I think he had mixed results. Some nice spin but alot of roll downs. I used one of the hens for one season and she was actually a black self hen. The young from her were pretty good and had good control. Didnt use her more than the one season because they were not better than my birds that were not crossed. Joe

They can be on the over cooked side of the spectrum. A. Thibodeaux has cut them with his old family and he has told me they are just too hot and need to be cut. I am using Thibodeaux's along with some pure Black Hen Family currently and should have them in competition by next year and maybe a few this year.

Pressure is on me to prove I can manage a loft now that I have the birds(LOL).

Scott,

I have not experienced control problems.........thus far. The only control problem I have experienced was elemenated and sold at an auction with the buyer being made aware of its offspring having control problems.

The best kit of birds I have ever seen flown were about 50% Black Hen family.

Too frequent with roll downs equaling more than a couple in a hundred = over cooked for me

I have a few birds with some #1125 Taylor blood in them and I haven't had any problems at all with them being over cooked. Only 2 rolldowns from one particular cock mated to a certain hen and that mating was never repeated. The funny thing is that both rolldowns were red checker hens like their father and they were also nestmates.
From what I understand about their background, they go back to some Pensom 514 stuff from Don Hearn of the Bay area.
