Uh, their bald? I have a pair that throws some now and then. They don't roll any better or worse than the others.

Give me a couple of more years of flying and then I will be bald.

I have a nice bald cock. He rolls real nice. I have 4 of his offspring in the kit box right now and two that just hatched. The oldest 2 are coming into the roll righ now and are doing really good. The other 2 should be coming into the roll soon. If the young are like his father they will be nice rollers. I have yet to see color making a difference in how a bird rolls. I have seen checks, grizzles, blacks, reds and balds in different lofts roll damn good. It is nice to have the best of both worlds..balds look good and if they roll good then your question is answered. I see that Tony has some balds in his Ruby roller gallery..maybe he can comment

Hey Paul, I will check in on this discussion. If you look to my photo gallery you will see some "balds", however, I do not see them as true balds of the kind some fanciers intentionally breed for and get really great color and pattern results.
However, I did just put together a pair that you could say have the bald pattern. They are related and so it will be interesting to see just what they put out in terms of "bald", however, my goal in putting them together is to see how well they will maintain the 5 primary traits while producing this attractive bald pattern.
As far as performance, my "balds" hold their own to the rest of my birds although I think my lavs, checks and mealy bars are better. But this is just my family of Ruby Rollers. Other breeders may report different results.
As a general rule, I believe breeding for color (bald) will tend to dilute the 5 primary traits as it is a different standard from the performance standard. I think you can get away with it in the context of a proven family and are able to maintain the 5 primary traits. FLY ON! Tony Chavarria
