Mario, This happens to first timers or young hens. It can also happen to fat hens laying. They strain themselves when laying causing temporary paralysis! Best to take the hen or hens away from the breeding pen if you are colony breeding so that the other cock birds won't scalp the hens. If you isolate them in a show cage in about 3 days they will start walking and get back to normal. The key here is to make sure they get water. You might need to also check the amount of calicium you are supplying to them either by way of your grit or an additive. Good luck

Your hens lack calcium. Give them plenty of red grit. The more they eat it the more you give. Only provide for daily consumption, otherwise, the salt will absorb moisture and goes bad.

hay mario,
you can give your hens a half 1/2 of a calcium pill that help them out and when my hens get down like i give them half 1/2 of a calcium pill and they pull out of it..............

Mario,
Sounds like parathyroid, not to be confused with paratyphoid. Parathyroid is a vitamin deficiency, go to the pharmacy and buy some generic Vitamin A/D capsules and give one a day to the affected birds. Brings them right back within 24 to 36 hrs.

I never tried vitamin A & D but it will be added to the medicine cabinet. I use 1/2 calcium pill for my hens when they have this problem. Thanks for the tip.
