Yerterday on the way home I had some radio talk show on and the subject was Live Pigeon Shoots. This is something I have never herd of. They stated that they put out hundreds of Pigeons at one time and just shoot away. They also stated it was against the law in every state except Pennsylvania. What's the deal on this? We can't touch a BOP but they can shoot the crap out of ours.

It use to be a common occurence. It was and organized shoot much like trap shooting only with live targets.
Most if not all the birds where commies that where trapped and sold for such events. Not condeming or condoning just the facts.

Alot of pressure has been put on law makers in Pa
to stop this, I'm sure it will become law sooner or later. I'm not against this as long as the birds are dead and not crippled up waiting to die. Helps keep barn pigeons at bay. We have private game farms around here for pheasants not much different in my book.

Like anything else, it depends on how it is conducted. I saw a video on YouTube that I would guess was taped by a animal rights group. The video showed a group of kids being used as "bird boys". The problem was that the video shows the kids twirling wounded birds around by the neck, slamming them on the ground and tossing them in water to drown, all the while everyone is laughing and having a great time.

What bothers me about this is the very same people that do the complaing have the dog testing using live Malard Duck shot out from giant slingshots and are blastd out of the sky. I have been to many of these it just amazed by the things that that they complain about. It's what I call selective complaining.

The pigeons aren't all shot at once. They are released one at a time from one of several boxes in a 17 yard ring and the objective is to shoot the bird before it can exit the perimeter of the ring. It used to be an olympic sport. And yes, most all of the birds uses are trapped commies.

Bruce, nice use of my nickname for your site name. I'm hopeful that most others who know me by BMC won't confuse your posts with mine.

If the Pigeon Shoots are illegal, does that mean the dog trainers can't use commies to train the bird dogs with? JJ

There is no law that I am aware of against using pigeons for dog training. For bird dog training pigeons are quite ideal in that when you place their head under their wing and move them around in a circular motion once or twice, then place them under a bush, they don't move until the dog approaches, at which time they usually take flight much like a game bird.

Down in Mexico, it is similar to what BA Roller describes except, a "Bird Boy" tosses the bird. He pulls and/or bends wing and tail feathers to make the bird fly more erratically, the gun has to shoot the bird before it is beyond some designated point or at times the bird must fly a designated distance before the gun is allowed to shoot.
"Bird Boys" get quite a reputation depending on their success in tossing birds the guns can't hit.
