Do your birds like it or not?

Our Rollers don't mind a gentle rain at all but they don't stay out in it or fly for very long.

Hey Robert, trainng rollers during some rain I haven't done. But I have flown my kits during this time as I have noticed that the BOP's dont bother the birds. Not to say: once it does stop to rain, you better have your birds in , otherwise you may get a visit. Those bops are hungry...I also tried to look you on the other site, but no luck to find you. I was trying to look up those parlor pictures you have posted.

My birds like it well. Especially a gentle rain w/o any wind.

"YES" to answer your question.... I like to fly my birds in a gentle rain with not much wind at all. On the other hand, I do train my birds to adapt to windy weather up to about 30 mph or so.

I'm a newbie to the Roller sport, but I do know a little about the weather, if your going to fly your rollers in the rain check and see what the barometric pressure is, birds have to work harder to fly in low pressure systems. So with that said you may have to adjust their food/energy.

az-je - They don't stay out long because they burnout quicker.

Paul - your right you generally wont see BOP's in the rain because of the same reason, but look out after the high pressure moves in, they will be hungry.

Guaranteed - the BOP will be looking for a meal just before and just after a storm. Learned that the hard way. Our birds don't mind the rain at all. Actually, they enjoy it. We do watch the barometric pressure and wind speed. Birds are not released if the pressure is too high (over 30.00 mb)or the wind too strong. Learned that the hard way also.

Yes, a "high pressure" day for us here at a mile high altitude in AZ is usually a beautiful, clear, blue sky. The birds will fly higher in these conditions. Another thing we look for with high pressure days is not so much the fluffy, white clouds but the high, thin clouds with wispy, brushed looking edges. That's a sure sign of upper level winds, turbulence and the birds will fly even higher. Our birds tend to fly a bit high anyway at this altitude so we're still trying different feed/seed combos to keep them down.

2 years ago in mid-March our World Cup kit of 20 birds was let out on what seemed to be a nice day. Sunshine, warm, light breeze and a few clouds. In about 15 minutes, everything changed. The wind kicked up to about 30 mph, clouds rolled in, wind gusted 40-50 mph, birds went up and up to get out of it. 3 days later we only had 8 of the original 20 bird kit make it back home. We have learned to watch the barometer.

Rain? Is that what Snow is, if not frozen. LOL
My bird do well in all forms of precipitation. As long as the wind, lightning and other thunderstorm elements are missing.

Shouldn't be a problem, good rollers will spin dry themselves.
