How do you take your birds to competitions? Also how do you get them to return to you?

Competetion flying is judged at your place by judges coming to score your birds. Its not like taking them to a show to have them judged.

Hello A, Birmingham Rollers are released in flocks aka "kits" of 15 to 20 pigeons. They are scored on their flying performance and the quality of same. It consists of such things as:
*Roll *Velocity *Depth *Concert performance *Flying 20 minutes as a single group *Overall impact to the person judging kit
Local roller clubs put on these competitions within a specific area and get together for fun and fellowship as well as support each others efforts.
Domesticated pigeons have a "homing" instinct in that they will come back to a location that is safe, has food and water and a perch.
This homing or "imprinting" can be transferred to new locations with proper training.
Rollers have been known to fly significant distances (several miles) in their efforts to get home after being sold or given away, lost through heavy winds or inclimate weather.
A, do you raise rollers now or do you plan to? If so there may very well be local folks in your area that can help you along if needed or if you just want to participate. FLY ON! Tony Chavarria
