Nick - I am glad you posted this site. Bob and I are friends because I have racers also but I use these products for my rollers as well. They are excellent. Great post and I hope you are well.

Hello Doc, His products make it easy for the breeder. Like he says "you don't have to add anything else". It is all there.

Healthy Pigeon Blend is what I have been using. I fix a batch each month that will last approximately three to four days on 11 breeder pairs. On my kit birds a batch last about three days. I mix a larger batch for the kit birds consisting of close to 90 birds.

Hey Nick, is this a similar product to ProVital? If so what are the benefits to using it over ProVital and how do the costs compare? Is it water soluble or mix it with some oil and stir it into the feed?

Tony - You mix it with some oil and stir it into the feed. I have been using Bob's product for a few years now and the birds have never looked so good and healthy.

It is a powder like substance. You drizzle about a table spoon of olive oil or vegetable oil on about 5 lbs of feed; then shake about a table spoon of the powder on the batch and mix thuroughly. The oil acts like an agent to get the powder to adhere to the grain. I do this once every two weeks. I know some who do it just once every month.

Its has a pro-vita type nutrients in it plus other benefitual nutrients as well. This company does sell a pro-vita product as well. Cost? For three pounds of Healthy Pigeon is $45, but for a small breeder of 50 to 100 birds will last the year with a every two weeks application. Keep in mind that is all you will ever need; no other additives.

Thanks Nick and 3757. Sounds similar to Pigeon Builder, which I have used in the past. Always good to know what out there works well as there are so many products to choose from! Enjoy your next fly!

They say you still need to add ACV to their water.

While we use a probiotic that has the ability to lower the Ph in the birds digestive system and we supplement it with an all natural human-grade acidifier, we still recommend that you use a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in the birds drinking water. Some of the pathogens or diseases that attack our birds cannot live in this slightly acidic environment and the vinegar has other good qualities. Please note, except for the suggested vinegar, everything in this product and program is in the Blend. Nothing is included that has to be mixed into the water. It's a complete package. You never have anything else to buy.

I just purchased 3 lbs of Healthy pigeon to start using for the first time. Nick I notice you say you drizzle a table spoon per 5lbs once every two weeks. I received some mixing instructions with my first purchase that says mix 1 table spoon per 10lbs of feed. There are no feeding instructions on how often you feed the birds the mix. I have a few question I hope you can answer for me. would feeding my kit birds as well as my breeders this mix everyday for a week then off 1 week and back to the mix be too much? Also I give my birds AVC in the water. I don't leave the water trouth in with the kit birds. I give them fresh water everyday. They only get the AVC 1 day a week the remaining 6 days they get water without the AVC. The following week I smash a clove of fresh garic and add to the water for 1 day drinking. afterwhich I go back to straight water again for the remaining 6 days and repeat this process. Should i be giving the birds the AVC everyday ? or maybe 7 days straight, then straight water the next 7 days straight. then the garlic water 7 days straight. I want to make sure that I'm giving my birds enough of what they need but i don't want to give them too much of anything that may do some harm.3757 would you be so kind to give me some input as well being that Bob is a friend of your and you have been using this product as well. This post is what motivated me to go to the heathy pigeon site and purchase the mix.

Roosevelt, It should be a table spoon for 10 LBS of feed. That was my mistake. The oil I use to allow the mix to adhere to the grain is olive oil. The only reason I use olive oil is that I store in my loft for long periods of time and it does not turn rancid like some oils do. By mixing it into 10 LBS it will feed my birds; both kit and breeders; a good part of a week (about 3 or 4 days) so your system of on a week and off a week pretty much matches with my schedule. There are times in the flying cycle that I take my kit birds completely off of it and go to straight grain. I do give apple cider vinegar once every two weeks; they do not need it everyday. I no longer use garlic because of Bob's mixture. I add nothing and only use apple cider vinegar in the drinking water.

What you are getting from Bob's mixture is often found in the pellet feeds. Without trying to gross you out I have smelled and tasted the mixture and I believe there is garlic in it. I also put some in a small bowl and hot water to see what I could find and I believe I found the same substances found in pecking pots. The trace minerals and vitamins are abound in it.

I think we made a good decision to purchase and use Bob's mixture.

Dennis, I personally don't believe this mixture would be necessary or benefitual if you are feeding pigeon pellets. The real idea behind pigeon pellets is that it has all the added nuitriants that Bob's mixture will give you.
