It can only get better for the Haitian people that were victimized by the recent earthquake. I pray their situsation turns around quickly and they receive all the medical and monetary assistance they need. I also pray they all will have something to eat daily as they pull through this. My wife and I were in the phillipines when "Mt. Pinatubo" erupted back in 1991. Every person on the island were affected in one way or another and our government declared all U.S citizens who were over there to be refugees. Once again, I pray for the Haitian people.

Haitian Vodou or Vaudou (French pronunciation: [vodu], Anglicised as Voodoo) is a syncretic religion originating from the Caribbean country of Haiti, located on the island of Hispaniola. It is based upon a merging of the beliefs and practices of West African peoples, (mainly the Fon and Ewe; see West African Vodun), with Roman Catholic Christianity, which was brought about as African slaves were brought to Haiti in the 16th century and forced to convert to the religion of their owners, whilst they largely still followed their traditional African beliefs.

The principal belief in Haitian Vodou is that there are various deities, or Lwa (commonly spelled Loa), who are subordinate to a greater God, known as Bondyè, who does not interfere with human affairs. Therefore it is to the lwa that Vodou worship is directed. Other characteristics of Vodou include ancestor worship and protection against evil witchcraft.

I think it is the Roman Catholic influence on their religion that screws them up. You know the purgatory stuff and deity of the living or once living.

Although Vodou is often associated with Satanism, Satan is rarely incorporated in Vodou tradition. When Mississippi Delta folksongs mix references to Vodou and to Satan, it may represent social pain such as from racism, although some crossover due to syncretism would certainly have occurred.

They do not worship Satan....it is a tag that Christians have put on their religion. That is something we Christians do when we walk upon another faith who demonstrate different rituals and practices then our own.

"the number one religeon is voodoo in that country, no wonder they got rocked.no one cares for there voodoo/devil worshiping asses.when the end comes theyll be the first to go." - Fontanabound.

WOW Fontanabound that was pretty harsh...what are you like 12 years old?

I dont think everyone in Haiti practices "voodoo/devil worshiping" and a lot of innocent young lives were lost.

Nick - You are wasting your time trying to explain. There are people who believe everyone in South LA are gang members, all people who speak Spanish are from Mexico and all sorts of ignorant ideologies. It has been proven that even when you show or tell them the truth they will not believe it. It’s like telling a Klan member all people came from the same individuals from the same continent. Most believe hearsay even in the pigeon world. Once they hear a lie long enough they believe it. In one hand they tell you do not listen to hearsay but on the other hand they spread this non-sense.
A Haitian Jean Baptiste Du Sable designed the city of Chicago, Haitians founded the first schools in New Orleans, and they sent troops to both the United States and Venezuela, created many small businesses and large businesses here , are productive citizens and were the second free nation in the New World after the United States. The news only tells you about boat people and all of the negative things for ratings.

Squabby,
I got off active duty and am now on AGR status for the Texas Air National Guard. It's a pretty good deal, active duty pay and benefits without the high deployment tempo and PCS moves to places you don't want to be. I am at Ellington Field, Houston TX, 147th RW. I seperated from Travis back in 86' when I left Clark AB, Philippines.

Prayer for the Dead Haiti
God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.
Amen.

Fontanabound. your comment is a disgrace to the human race. You with out sin cast the first stone. You sound like Pat Robertson who knows very little of the truth in the Bible. God said Prostitutes and thieves and liars are entering the kingdon of God before you pharisees (religous High archies).

You should apologize for your thoughtless and reckless oppinion. Bill Crider

All I can say is that humanity is alive and doing well on planet earth. Humanity is not orchestrated by political venue, but by virtue of doing what is right. There is nothing more nobler than humanity.

Every person that has left their country, family or job to come and help the Haitians are heroes! Heroism is the brilliant triumph of the soul over the flesh; over fear of poverty, of suffering, of calumny, of sickness, of isolation, and of death. Heroism is the dazzling and glorious concentration of courage which has been displayed by the global community in response to the 7.0 Haiti earthquake. I applaud the rescue workers who pulled live bodies from out of the rubble days after the intial quake... because they are truly heroes.

MEMO: A hero is a man or woman who does whatever he/she can to help those in desperate need.
