----------I have been reading these threads on breeding and how many pairs are u breeding ,so my question is how many kit boxes do u really need and how many pairs per kit??0221 says u only need 6 pairs,is this for only one kit box with no hawk problems?I have 9 pair for 2 kits and one hold over kit and some hawk problems but nothing like L.A,just ur thoughts

I fly up to 30 birds in a kit. I have three kit boxes, but I need four to manage them properly. I will build the fourth kit box this spring.

Rick, I like three but can see the need for four. Old hens, old cocks, young birds mixed, with the forth box available for separating the young birds by sex as they mature.I use four pair of breeders, with four pair of foster/breeders and four pair of fosters only.

Rick, I would say it all depends on how many birds you can properly manage. You could have, let's say four kitboxes full of birds but only realistically only have time for two kitboxes full of birds. I don't think there's really any set number, just depends on what you can manage properly or have time for.You say you have two kits and one holdover kit. That sounds like a manageable number of birds to me.You have 9 pairs and it would take a little more than two rounds to fill up your two kitboxes (excluding your holdovers), you don't have many losses to BOP's. Sounds like your right about on the money to me! Remember it all depends on what "YOUR" schedule is like. The more kits you have = less time to evaluate those kits (of course it depends on your schedule). My system is similar to yours, I have 9 pairs and four kitboxes, but realistically only enough time to "properly" manage two, maybe three at the most (due to work,family,etc.). I always raise a few extra for the BOP'S, cause i'm in L.A.!

I have 4 kit boxes but rarely fill the fourth. I use one for training the young and the rest for moving the birds around as they mature and develope. Joe

"I have 4 kit boxes I use one for training the young and the rest for moving the birds around as they mature and develope" Joe.....Thats the same way I run my program, but I have three that are identical and the fourth one, I face towards the other 3 for training. Im breeding 12 pairs because I have the room and Im trying to find the best of the best, I plan to breed 3 rounds this year.

Rick...if you are breeding from 9 pr. Theoretically, if you get 3 rounds out of them you will have 54 youngsters,if all goes well. Do the math... And like rollernutz mentioned, what are you able to properly manage??

Rick.... the only way to learn is to ask questions... So.... keep asking them. Good luck this year.
I've had pigeons most of my life, but only into rollers 5yrs now and Iam still learning.
