Just the other day Juan Navarro posed that question to Tim Decker...basically what would you do or where would you go for birds if you lost your loft and kits of birds? Tim told me about it and it really got the wood to burning. Since I don't raise a particular family, though I am in the process of building my own, I would say that you have two options. The first is to seek out birds you have given or sold to people who are working with your birds. I think that is what a lot of folks would do assuming your contacts and friends would be as kind with you as you were with them. Option two would be to come to grips with your loss, then seriously think through your options as far as who is flying birds that are either similar to yours or in a league you are happy with and then start over fresh with those. Brian.

Assuming you have lost all your stock birds as well there is nothing to do but start over. For next time try to prevent what happened by securing your loft against preditors both animal and lower animal life forms that pose as humans. Don't fly your stockbirds if they are irreplaceable. Brian from MCCORMICKLOFTS can you please tell us a bit about the how you are going about building your own family. I am trying buid my own family as well and would appreciate advice and experiences from fellow flyers who are doing the same.

Hi Joe, I have 4 families that I am using to form my own family. I have a cousin John Bender that won the 1994 world cup and a friend that won it in 1993 Joe Roe. I also was very lucky to get rollers from the last World champ a friend of mine Dennis Burke. I am using a family out of Texas that wins and places high in the finals. I have been using the best traits of all these families to form my own. It has been a long process but I am getting there. It might seem strange that I use 4 families as many fanciers use just one to form their family. It don't happen overnite. Later Steve Sissel

I would find the people that you sold or gave some of your birds to and see if you could buy back and restart you old family.

I was wiped out last year atleast one of my families was. I wanted it back so I called a guy that I had given several pairs to and he gave me back all of them. He kept all of the young from that breeding year and gave me back the parents. Just goes to show if you treat people right it comes back to you.
