I was able to raise some lavender/silver baldys off a pair that was lent to me this season.
They have a very faint partial red bar.

Can some one advise me what colour would be best to breed to them ?

Canspinners please dont take this the wrong way but I would say any color that rolls. The bird is ash red by definition and as you may already know ash red shows itself in a multitude of ways. But if I were you I would not focus on the color but rather on the performance because after all we are breeding a performance breed. Joe

Thanks for you responses ..jm inever take things the wrong way and appreciate your advise ,.....i primarly keep the birds in my breeding coop by spinning ability . Yes it is true not to keep them by colour but what is apparent is that birds of all colours are capable of spinning

Jm i have the following spinners in...yellow ,white ,recessive red, black baldy ,red baldy, blue check badge, red check, solid black,

JM I do not have any blue baldys will a pairing to a blue check bring out the the blue bars.ALso is t better to focus on the male ash pairing or the pairing to the ash females

I have seen birds in every color roll. The fact of the matter is however that I see very few rare colors roll copared to the ash reds, blues, blacks, rec reds. I know they can all roll I just look at the percentages of good comming out of a guy who is trying to sustain his yellow stock compared to a guy that is breeding striclty from the color of performance.
To answe you question about the bald head, you will never get a barred bird from two birds unless they are both carrying bar. So unless that blue check has barring in its background your answer is no. Joe

Thanks JM for your response .......I am sure the day will come with in the next two years. Where out of my 30 pairs I will pick 3 pairs of my best spinners Regardless of colour and I will get rid of all the others .

My plan will be to breed all the males to all the females and then breed half brother /sister to half brother/sister i heard this is the best way to start one family of birds

BINGO !!! the tighter we keep it focused around such the further we inch along..keeping in mind that some lines may end though..if they are right it shows dramaticly.

Scott do you think this is the best way to start off / How many pair should i start with right now i have four lines . the one line i will not mix with any other they are pure bob brown imports with peds going back to the 60s

The other three families i was going to pick three pair one from each family of the best spinners and inter mix to create a new family..sounds like you agree with that IS it correct the way isaid breed all three males to each female then 1/2brother and 1/2 sisters?

George thanks for the pics my birds are the colour you are showing only some are bald head (Females) and the males are badges they are from the Bob Brown Line. They have very little red in the body and faint bars like your bird in the last pic .

your birds look awsome they look like they are in great shape and spinn like crazy

Why not just find the birds that work best for you. Too much emphasis is put on building your own family. It takes time and you will only be recognised as doing so if and when you become successful with them. Joe

It is just ash red carrying blue. The red bar is actually the lav tick cocks grandfather.Your cock birds should moult more ticking in every year. Joe

Sounds like a lot of birds to sort out. Thirty pair prodigy testing could take a lifetime. Fly them spin, them, Cull the rest.

John.. I would be looking for the best few producers out of the same line..and forget the color in your selection as it is meaningless at this point for you.
Out of the 30 pair you gotta have something to work with..problem is with that many it is very difficult to find them.
Somehow you have to hone it in and get a handle on this or you will just spin your wheels.. it starts when you start seeing a pattern for whats producing good one's (just rolling isn't good enough).
At that point you start circling the wagons around your best and feeling the line out..with luck their prodigy will produce als..if so you have a small flame to start with.. if not..and they may not..find others that do.
All of this is how it works..it is a slow building process that never ends but is a lot of fun... Good Luck !!!
Scott

PS Kill all axel wingers as they are culls... and you will move past others here... never make excuses for junk.
