Sound rollers...you can also go to a pet store that has snakes or lizards...they have warm mats that are smaller that are made for the snakes and lizards to lay on..they are water proof too....and smaller then that big ass Mat....I have used one when I was raising a young bird in the house for my son...they work great..and they are not the expensive..they also have a sticky back to keep it in place...just a thought...

Lizard pads dont work in my area at all, when it gets real cold, What i found that works great is nothing more then just a Mug warmer plate(Walmart). Give that a try, they are cheap enough to take a chance on. The plate gets pretty hot, around 250F, I took a terracotta plate(HomeDepot), turned it upside down and placed it over the Mug warmer, Cuts direct heat to the water bottle while also transferring heat evenly to the base of the waterer.
Hope this helps.

I use the same exact drinkers that you show here, with "wooden fountain heaters" from Global Pigeon Supply in Georgia.
It gets pretty cold sometimes up here in Canada but they work very well ( and have 3 different heat settings.) --- Hope this helps

It's funny this thread has came up. I just got finished making some water heaters myself. I made several boxes 12"wide x 5"high x 16"long. I cut a 5" diameter hole in one corner where I would set the fountain water over. I used a 40 watt energy saver bulb and a temp controled plug. It comes on at 35 degrees and cut off at 40 degrees. Only problem is that the light shows thru the plastic, so I spray painter the bottoms of the waters black. At a cost of
about $10.00 each compared to the lizard mats that cost $19.99 each.

paul, where did you get this temp controlled plug? sounds like a nice idea. if you had to build them without this plug, a low watt lamp, maybe 15watts, probably would work if left on all winter.

steve49....that's it exactely.... I got my plug at a local hardware store, $12.95. It has a place for 2 plug in. I plug the temp plug into the wall outlet and then I can plug in 2 separate extenstion cords one for each side of my loft. For the past 2 weeks it has been working just fine. The temps here have been down in the teen's and "NO" iced waters.
