Hello all, If a darkened kit box calm's your birds dose it also force your young birds into an early molt as it dose in race birds? The new thing in racing pigeons is to fly the dark system witch makes your birds go through an early body mold this is caused by shortning the day light hours to 9 hours a day, this helps them not to be strested as young birds dearing the young bird races. I was just wondering if rollers would benifit from this when it came to competion or if they even go through an early body molt when you darken the kit box as race birds do? Chuck

Chuck yes you can push them through the moult, the National fly is in the Fall and the moult creates some real problems, some will retard the moult untill after this fly while some will try and push them through an early moult, and some will just pull the 9th and 10 th primaries in July, once they grow back in the birds will moult up to them, the 9th and 10th in the blood stage is where the moult will give rollers the most problem.
