Hey Everybody!

Here is the deal. I have 7 birds in my kit so far. The oldest was hatched on 3/17/04 and the youngest was hatched on 4/7/04. They are all flying pretty good. One does not seem to want to kit. It will kit for a bit then head off on his own. The three oldest are tail riding like crazy and reacting to each other. One actually did one roll yesterday. My question is, At what age should I start worrying about the lone flier if he continues to not kit and how long do I give them if they keep tail riding and not rolling. I also let out a 2003 cock with them who rolls very nice. The young birds stay right with him and react to his roll. (Is that smart to do) The birds that tail ride and drop 20-30 ft on there tails really work to get back with the group. So..How long do I give them to perform, Basically give me the whole can of beans on starting a new kit with different ages ect.

Just some info. I fly them twice a day for 4.5 days then rest for 1.5 days. They are fed twice a day. I feed them when they are done flying. I let them eat for about 5min each time. They all trap together pretty consistant. They fly from 15 to 30 minutes depending on the weather. (they want to come down on the hotter days). I mix my own feed...1 soup can wheat, 1 soup can milo, 1/4 soup can pellets, 1/4 soup can pigeon mix (peas.ect.) then I shake it all about and feed that mix to them for about 5 minutes after flying. That seems to be the magic number. They seem to eat the mix evenly...When I pull it it looks the same just less quantitiy...they seem to be eating a little of everything. They all still squeek! So...is it all about patience. Any input would be nice. When do you start weeding them out...good and bad. I just want some guidence or guidlines or timelines ...cutting feed ect.

Thanks,
Paul Fullerton

Well,

I now have nine birds in the kit and I will put two more in about 2-3 days. The first seven are doing well. I now have 5 that are into the roll. They do about 2-3 flips. They kit really well. They stick together like glue. The other 4 still do not fly very good. So they just sit up on the kit box and watch the other birds fly. I have had no problems with the birds trapping, or learning how to trap. I just blow my whistle when I am ready to feed. I grab the young birds that can't fly. Shove them through the trap then step back and let the other birds trap. Then they eat! The other birds learn by me shoving them through and by watching the other birds. By the time they are flying, they already know how to trap. I will keep you updated Chuck! I was wondering if you would be interested in building me a kit box and how much! your box looked great! Let me know if you can build one.

Thanks.
