i have ben having a little trouble with a few birds getting egg bound what can i do to prevent this will adding a little cooking oil to the feed help if so how much and how offten

Hello Tim, after a bit of research, I came up with this link that includes info on egg bound hens. According to it, "massage a small amount of vegetable oil around the vent of the bird. This will help soften the mucus membranes around the vent and help the hen pass the egg successfully."

It also covers a few other egg problems and possible solutions: Soft shelled eggs, calcium deficiency, uterus problems, egg-binding, development stages of the egg, common hatching problems and alot more! Hope this helps!

thanks TONy i did that this moorning plus i put some in thear feed to i have two hens having this prob one laid this evning and is now sitting seems to have helpd her this is my continental hen so im verry glad she is better i lost one of my continental hens to this prob so my continental line rides all on this one hen dont want to loos this one thanks for the info...

Tim it's one this to have an eggbound hen once in a blue moon but if its a consistant problem they are either too fat and out of shape or in to poor of shape

I never thout about being to fat cawssing egg bound i pretty much feed the breeders all thay want how much feed would you recamend im feeding 5 grain scrach feed with say flower added and extra sun flower to and peas THANKS FOR THE HELP ps. this bird is on two eggs now but this is two times in a row she got egg bound im not sher if shes to fat but i do know shes not in poor shape
