I have my first young in the kit box. 3 squeekers. They can fly about 20 feet or so. They no how to trap. Right now they sit on top of the kit box, then fly in a quick circle then land on the kit box again. They are still very young. My question is...well all the questions. They have been in the kit box about 5 days or so. What do I feed them, how do I start the feeding, when do I start cutting back, should I let them out hungry.

They get on the roof of the kit box on there own. I just open the trap and they fly out through the trap nice and slow and then sit on the platform to the trap, them make there way onto the roof. Just any suggestions on how to start the traing. Oh, my breeder loft is about 5 ft away, they fly back and forth from the breeder loft roof and the kit box roof. Should I chase them off the breeder roof? This is my fist time so give me all the info I will need! Give it to me!

Thanks
Paul Fullerton

Hello Paul,
Don't rush the youngsters.
Don't run them up to fast.
Let them get the area surveyed and get used to going into your kit box.
Keep your youngsters on a high protein mix because they are still growing and you could even give them some turkey or chicken pellets (in small quanities ) as not to get messy droppings.
I don't know their ages but if you start cutting back on the feed at 3 months they will have developed pretty good by then. 1 1/2 cups of wheat and milo will do the trick for a kit of 20 birds.
If they need to get up in the air by then use some millet and milo they will start getting higher.
Hope this helps.
