I started to look at total NBRC membership in Region 5 flying in the National Championship and discovered these figures:

Arkansas 43% of membership is competing
Kansas 45% of membership is competing
Missouri 19% of membership is competing
Oklahoma 40% of membership is competing

33% of Region 5's NBRC membership competes.

This is higher than the national average.

Nick, it seems that Kansas is leading the way.. Good work and what is the national average? I am guessing, 10%?

I believe the national average to be less than 20%, but I am not sure how much less. Kinda what happens in Missouri happens for the rest of the NBRC. About 19% of members compete for varying reasons. In Missouri it has been primarily the Southwestern part of the state that does the competing.
