Does any one give Garlic to fly rollers? I was watching "Eldon Cheney Judging the '98 WC Finals" video tape and late Monty Neibel mentioned that he gives to fly rollers.
Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, -Rauf

Rauf, I find it hard to believe that Monty used Garlic as a treat or booster for his team prior to a fly. Garlic is a toxic cleaner and immune system booster. I would believe the discussion was more in regards to general health of the overall flock rather than a trick item. Garlic is good to help cleanse the bird's system of any toxic elements and it does a good job of keeping the immune system up and working good. I use it about twice a month with my breeders and show birds. But I haven't tried giving it to the flyers. They get their usual routine of vitamins once a month prior to a club fly along with aureomycin now and then to make sure nothing slight is going on. Brian.

Rauf, I talked with Monty at the Louieville Ky. young bird show on this subject around the late 90's. Monty did give his birds about once a week as a health enhancer a tonic as he called it (Goup). It was garlic crushed up in water and applecider vinegar. He also gave them a Belgium mineral powder on their feed now and then. Monty said he never gave these while he was preparing them for a competetion. Monty started the YO YO system of feeding. 1 cup of wheat per 20 birds 3rd day before a fly. 1/2 cup of wheat 2nd day before a fly. 1/4 cup of wheat the day before a fly. At the last fly he flew he added a few Canadian peas of which Joe Roe was doing good on them. He told me he let the birds have 1 drink of water at each feeding and pulled the water. Hope this helps. Steve did Monty fly them on the yo-yo feeding or did he just feed them and fly on comp day?

Anonymos, We discussed the comp side of the feeding program he used. I don't think he fed them this way all the time, because he said if you kept them on this rotation they would weaken and show a ragged roll as he said. Steve
