Do any of you guys who fly either competitively or in your backyards keep pedigrees for your birds or is that too old school nowadays? Just curious.

Terry all my birds have peds, and they can be a valuable tool if used properly, but in no way does it assure you of a good bird as a few have also used it as a sales tool and used it to breed towards some dead pigeon of many years ago,but then most of these people are exsposed also,it seems that the harshest critics of peds that you will generally run across are the guys that have color crosses in thier birds as of course they dont want to have say an "Ice Pigeon" or some other breed back up the ped. somewhere written,at least thats been my experiance, the history of the birds in your loft should in my opinion be tracable

I have had rollers for the last 5 years. I do not compete but I still have goals to improve as much as possible. I keep detailed pedigree on all my birds. I feel that having a detailed pedigree allows you to better asses your breeding performance and make adjustments to get better result. As time goes on I can veiw them and try and work out any pattern that surfaces good or bad with the birds I have. I feel it is an invaluable tool. In saying that I feel another persons pedigree is only as good as their honesty.

Good one Matt, good detailed records are invaluable as are Peds with such info on them,Generally I wont write a ped untill a particular bird has proven it's self in the stock loft, and good point that they are only as good as those writing them !!
