I'm building my first kit box inside my barn and need some idea's/pic's or plans for a outside release and recovery pen and trap. Can sputniks be built into a wire and wood hang on a outside barn wall pen/cage? What is your favorite kind of trap?
Where is the best place to have the enter/exit hole in the wall at? Bottom, top or middle of the wall? How small a hole can I use for rollers?
Thanks for any help!.

Hello Zinger,
I jumped a few times in the Army myself.LOL
Well if you have no trouble with preditors and would be able to lock your bob traps at nite that is the way to go, as to train your youngsters with a cage just outside your bob trap door.
If you have trouble with the preditors at nite I would use a drop trap in the roof with a 4 inch box around it with a lock front.
The drop traps are made of 4 inch PVC pipe and are easy to install.
You can use a large wire cage on top of the drop to train your youngsters to drop.
Hope this helps.

Sounds like a great idea. Are you familiar with what is called a piano trap? Very similiar to a sputnik, although instead of drop holes they drop in through bobs.
What I would do is use what ever no. of PVC pipe you choose instead of bobs. That might help with the predators. Put a wire bottom in it and it would be great to put the bath pan in. The door from kbox to trap make the same size as the as the outside demensions of trap and hinge it in and up. Be nice to close it from the outside once the birds are in the box somehow. The exit door of the trap would be the same as sputnik. Something for you to think about anyways.

All we need is to make one skydive/jump to have a taste of it. No words can explain free falling, That is why I have almost 1,700 jumps, I'll trade skydiving instructions for pigeon care tips all day long...lol.

I don't know what a piano trap is and I'm interested to learn more, I never seen any kind of trap/loft besides on line pics. And that makes it kinda tough to build a nice loft..lol..

I can not put a trap on the roof, It's 30 feet or more above the top of the pigeon pen in the barn, I can build a ligtweight wire and wood release/recovery sun/bath pen on the outside barn wall and put small enter/exit holes threw the barn wall that would connect both pens very well.

I could use some ideas on the best way to build this outside pen and ways to trap them in and out. Pics and or plans would be ideal..

Thanks for your help it's very much appreciated.. Roy

Hi Roy, Put a piece of 2x2x4 on a 4x4x4 block of wood. Thats what the piano trap looks like. Sputnik would have the 2x2 cut on 45.
You could have a sloped roof on the cage and as Steve says have drop holes in the roof. To explain, cut two pieces of 2x6 from 6 in. to nothing aprox. 16 in. long. Set them on the roof a ft. apart. Put a piece of plywood on top of 2x6's as the roof of trap. Put the PVC pipe as drop holes where they will go in. 16in is just for a guide. Nothing starts right at the building and comes out far enough they are'nt hitting the wall coming in. Trap training poses another problem with all this. It can be done but nothing convienient about it I don't think. Once you get started on hopefully it will all come together for you. It's called beginners luck. All the best.

Qu'Appelle, It's all fun..lol. Thank you for the pic but I'm not real comfortable right now with posting my e-mail on a open w/w/w page, I get enough spam, Think it would be O.K to post pic's in "Visitor picture gallery" on this site? And Thanks again for your help... Roy.

Roy, I would if I could. I think you are better off with drop holes and a bigger landing area. there is just to many different ways to do this. Thats all I can say. Build what you think you need and go from there. Post a pic on this site when you get it built. Cheers!

Brookr, traps is just a word we use to describe the entry to the coop for our pigeons so that once they go in to eat and take care of their babies they cant get out and be eaten by cats or animals that hang around
