Why would you want to do that when you can just tape them up. When you are ready for them to fly you can just remove the tape. If you cut the last four or five flights, it will take the birds 6 weeks per flight during the warm season to grow back. Figure close to three months if they molt them consecutive. If you yank them out at once, figure about 8 weeks, but you better feed LOTS of protein. My advice, don't go there. Tape is just too easy. Brian.

Thanks Brian for the input. I have lost many birds in the past and even taping would not work out that well. So I am planning to try this method and see if that will help.

If you lost them it could be because you didn't have them hungry enough. If you bring in new birds that have flown somewhere else, you need to get them hungry and teach them to associate with their new kit box and if in with other rollers of yours, to learn to bond with the current birds. Make sure and put a fly pen on the front so they can check out the new area. Get them really hungry and then let them out on their own, taped up of course. If they haven't been fed for three days and know what feeding time is all about, you shouldn't have a problem. Flying them with your current birds once they want to take to the air will help too. Good luck and for the sake of conversation, I think you will be unhappy in the long run if you cut their flights. Brian.

Hi Sidd, In all the years I raised rollers I have found that if you aquire birds that are not to close to home it takes about 3 weeks at the most to settle them no matter what age they are. Put them in your loft or kit box for about 2 weeks. Put a cage on the loft as to go over the roof from your kit box or loft so they can get on the roof with the trap open for 2 or 3 days. Close the trap and train them to go in just like training youngsters. Keep them hungry the last week and put them in the cage at feeding time to get them to trap in. When they get used to the roof the last week they will stay around if they are not Homing pigeons and are Rollers LOL when you let them out after 3 weeks. Later Steve S.

Thanks guys for the feedback. You guys may not believe me but I lost 9 birds this weekend. I have cage attached to kit box and they were in there for 3 weeks and always have good view of surroundings. I did not feed them for a day and they were hungry enough. They came out of the kit box did couple of circles to get higher and flew in one direction and I never seen then again. Left with only 9 birds out of 20.
I have settled adult birds in the past and did lose one or two but this incident is worst one.
